A Tale of Two Hammers.

Meet the property sisters

Sisters Emily and Annie Hammer are California transplants with big hearts for Asheville. Passionate for travel and exploration, Asheville called us both to be part of the eclectic and vibrant tapestry of Western North Carolina. With seven years of “local” between us, we have immersed ourselves in our town and constantly explore this ever-changing canvas that is AVL.  With this, we love to share our knowledge and will proudly be the first to help you take in what our area has to offer.

With a longtime dream of working together as small business owners, we combined both our love of nesting (and all things home) and hospitality into a special combination. The vision for our first property, Little Shady Oak, was born out of a direct need that we realized was lacking when we first arrived in town.

Arriving to a new town, moving and settling can be a trying time. Finding the right home situation, even when temporary, while trying to get your bearings is an added stressor. Where to live? How long are leases? Does it feel like home? Is it safe? Does it take pets? These are the headaches that we encountered when starting out. The longer the list of basic needs, the few hopeful items on the short list, the exact amount of time (or flexibility for that matter) in stay, made it nearly impossible to find a temporary home for us while we tried to decide where we wanted to permanently settle in town.

... for when you want to see if Asheville is the right fit for you before committing to a move ... for seasonal vacations and short term business stays ... for when you’ve just gotten to town and don’t know where you want to root yourself ... for taking a break or starting over ... for house hunting, renovations, and waiting for your 'Forever Home' to close ...

This is where the idea of “Two Hammers” was born. Let us take the guesswork out of things for you! Bring your luggage and know that everything is taken care of for you. No utility bills, no lawn care, no furniture, no worries. Little Shady Oak is the monthly haven to call home. Flexibility, comfort and ease were our main goals when putting these properties together. Suitable for so many of life’s journeys, let our homes welcome you.

Annie.

Annie is a natural born helper. She has always had a passion and heart for serving others. That passion has led her down many different paths, whether that's studying social work at Warren Wilson College, doing various volunteer work or, most recently, earning her 200 hour yoga teacher training.  Being in the hospitality industry felt like a natural fit and an extension of her talents. With her  entrepreneurial spirit, flare for design and mind for business, running Two Hammers with her sister Emily is a dream come true. In her free time, you can find Annie taking dance classes, practicing yoga, spoiling her pup Josie and exploring the food scene in Asheville.

Emily.

Emily is a creative type, with a mind for business. When not playing host or designing properties and interiors, she can be found in her art studio dabbling and making art. She works with everything from paper sculpting, to collaging with vintage jewelry, to teaching silk painting, to block printing and needle felting. She loves to dabble. If not in her art studio, she’s probably dancing at her local dance studio of choice, where she spends way too much of her time. An avid foodie and culture seeker, she is always searching for hidden gems in town and surrounding area. A self-proclaimed history and architecture “nerd,” she is the first person to talk about the Biltmore and other local historical spots. She lives outside of Biltmore Village with her beloved dog, Kaia, and cat, Jezebel.
